Home Stainless Steel IBC Tote IBC Stainless Steel Tank Horizontal 500L

Sometimes vertical doesn't work. Low ceilings. Tight spaces. Applications where gravity feed isn't the goal. That's when a horizontal tank makes sense.

This 500L horizontal stainless steel tank is designed for installations where height is limited or where you need a low-profile storage solution. The cylindrical body sits on a welded stand, with the outlet positioned at the lowest point for complete drainage.

We build these for customers with space constraints—processing facilities with overhead conveyors, laboratories with low ceiling heights, or mobile applications where a tall tank would be unstable. The horizontal orientation also creates a larger top surface area, making it easier to mount pumps, filters, or instrumentation directly on the tank.

Fabricated from 304 or 316L stainless steel, with full documentation and pressure testing. Custom fittings and options available.

Detailed Specifications

Horizontal Orientation
The horizontal configuration offers several advantages for specific applications. It lowers the overall height, allowing installation under conveyors, through doorways, or in areas with ceiling constraints. The longer, lower profile also distributes weight more evenly, which can be beneficial for mobile applications or installations on elevated platforms.

The outlet is positioned at the lowest point of the tank, typically at one end of the cylinder. A slight slope built into the stand ensures complete drainage—no pooling of product at the bottom.

Material and Finish
Both the tank and stand are fabricated from 304 or 316L stainless steel. For food, beverage, and pharmaceutical applications, we recommend 316L with a polished interior surface (Ra ≤ 0.8μm) to meet sanitary standards and simplify cleaning.

All interior welds are full penetration and ground smooth. Exterior welds are finished to customer preference.

End Caps and Pressure Ratings
Standard horizontal tanks use dished end caps, which provide strength and resistance to pressure. For atmospheric storage applications, flat end caps are available as a lower-cost option. For pressure vessel applications, we can provide ASME Section VIII certification.

Fittings and Ports

The top of the tank provides a large flat surface area—more than a vertical tank of the same capacity—making it ideal for mounting additional equipment:
Manway for access (typically 300mm to 400mm diameter)
Vent with filter for pressure equalization
CIP spray ball connections
Instrument ports for temperature sensors, pressure gauges, or level transmitters
Pump mounting plate for direct pump attachment

Stand and Mounting
The welded stainless steel stand is designed to support the tank while maintaining the correct slope for drainage. Options include:
Adjustable feet: For leveling on uneven floors
Fork pockets: For pallet jack or forklift movement
Skid mounting: For mobile applications or easy relocation
Fixed legs: For permanent installation

Optional Features

Heating Jacket: Full or partial jacket for temperature control
Insulation: Jacketed insulation with stainless steel cladding
Agitator: Side-entry mixer for blending
CIP Spray Balls: Fixed or rotating for automated cleaning
Level Indication: Sight glass, magnetic flap gauge, or electronic transmitter
Custom Fittings: Any combination of ports, valves, and connections

Before you click download, here's the truth:

These aren't just PDFs we threw together overnight. They're the same spec sheets, material certs, and inspection reports we've been sending real customers for the past 15 years.

The 316L spec sheet? That's the one we send to pharma companies in Ireland who need to prove every weld. The UN cert sample? That's what got a chemical distributor in Houston through their DOT audit without a single finding.

Download them. Read them. Then imagine getting a fresh set with your name on every page.
